1st X1 League Champions!
Cranleigh FC has just completed the current season in the Surrey Intermediate League (Western) Division 1,winning it at the fourth attempt and gaining promotion to the Premier Division. Cranleigh's first League title since the 70's!
It is a fantastic achievement by all involved.
Looking back our final run of 9 games with 6 wins and 3 draws gave us the momentum to clinch the title on the last day of the season with also saw UNIS Old Boys losing the match they needed to win for their own title aspirations.
The last game of our run saw us win 4-3, in unlikely circumstances, at Woking & Horsell. We came from behind 3 times and with less than 20 mins to go we were 3-2 down and had Luke Zatwardnicki sent off before Nick McGown levelled and Ricky Newman hit the winner in the last minute of stoppage time.
Next season the 1st Team will once again be managed by Steve Inwood assisted by Richard Coleman, both are looking forward to the challenge of competing in a higher League, albeit a number of the teams are no strangers to Cranleigh.
The 2nd X1, also in the SIL(W), Reserves Division 1, having won the league in style (by 13 clear points) last season, finished a creditable 4th this season with a revamped younger team managed by Paul Lee and his assistant Tim Harms. They have done a great job in bringing on some of last year's U18 players providing real continuity from the youth through to the 2nd and 1st teams.
Our U18 team, a part of the very successful Cranleigh Youth Football Club, managed by Mark Tabor, played in the Surrey Youth midweek floodlit league, reaching the semi-finals of the cup, a great achievement considering the status of the other clubs competing.
