Cranleigh Football Club - Founded 1893
Celebrating 117 Years
Cranleigh Football Club was founded in 1893, although there is evidence that organised football had been played in the village prior to this date.
One of the oldest clubs in Surrey 'The Cranes' now play in the Surrey Intermediate League (Western) - Division 1.
The club is affiliated to The Surrey County FA receiving awards on its 75th and 100th anniversaries.
For much of it's existence Cranleigh FC has been a member of the Surrey Intermediate League and has played in at least four different locations in the village. Snoxhall Fields having been it's home for over 25 years.
Cranleigh Utd were Surrey Intermediate League Champions on 3 occasions in the 70's (1973-74, 1976-77 & 1977-78)
In 1980 Cranleigh Football club amalgamated with Cranleigh United FC and entered senior level football via The Surrey Senior League following into the Combined Counties League.
In 1992-93 Cranleigh FC progressed to the 3rd round of The FA Vase beating Bedfont, Faversham Town, Greenwich Borough & North Leigh before finally going out to Hailsham Town in front of a record home crowd.
Our highest finish in the Combined Counties League was in 1993-94 when we finished 4th.
After surviving re-election to the league in 4 of the next 7 seasons Cranleigh FC was finally relegated to the re-formed Surrey Senior League in season 2002-03 disappointingly finishing 16th out of 17.
We then played for 2 seasons in the new Combined Counties League Division 1, finishing in last place on both occasions. The end of the 2004-05 season saw us lose our treasured Senior Status.
Having gone to just one team, from the five teams of the early '80's, we joined the Surrey South East Combination League in 2005-06 only to be relegated again from their Premier Division. The 2005-06 season will always be remembered as the season the club almost went out of existence.
In the 2006-07 season we finished 4th in SSECL Division1, and having added a new 2nd team playing in The Guildford & Woking Alliance League, applied to re-join the Surrey Intermediate League (Western).
Season 2007-08 heralded an upturn in the fortunes of Cranleigh FC with the 1st team finishing a creditable 4th in SILW Division 1, the 2nd team finishing 2nd in SILW Reserves Division 1 and our 3rd team coming 2nd in the G&W Alliance Division 4.
The last 2 seasons the 1st team consolidated in the league having made good starts and a strong finishes, the 2nd team last year finished as Champions and the 3rd team achieving a mid table spot in G&W Alliance Division 3, not helped by a couple of managerial changes.
With the introduction of an U18 team last season the future is looking very good for Cranleigh FC.
